The top tourist attractions of London are:

Tower of London

The Tower of London is one of London’s most iconic tourist attractions. Located on the banks of the River Thames, the iconic structure was originally built as a fortress by William the Conqueror in 1066 and has since served numerous purposes such as a royal palace, an armoury and a prison. Today, it is one of Britain’s most popular tourist destinations with over 3 million visitors each year.

The Tower complex consists of several buildings including the White Tower which houses exhibits from the Royal Armouries and historic artefacts from its long history as a royal palace. Visitors can also witness The Ceremony Of The Keys – an ancient tradition that dates back 700 years! Besides visiting historical sites, tourists can enjoy performances by Beefeaters Guards or take part in guided tours through its grounds such as Traitor’s Gate.

British Museum

The British Museum is one of the top tourist attractions of London. It is a great place to be, especially if you are interested in history and culture. Located in the heart of the city, it is home to over 8 million artifacts from around the world. Visitors can explore centuries of art, culture and design from ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Greece and Rome. A trip to the museum will give visitors an insight into humanity’s past.

The majestic Greek Revival building houses some of the most impressive collections in Europe. Among them are historical coins and medals, manuscripts, prints and drawings as well as archaeological objects from all corners of Britain. To make things even better, admission to the museum is free! You can spend hours exploring this incredible collection without having to worry about spending too much money.

Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace is one of the most iconic and beloved sites in all of London, drawing millions of visitors each year. This royal palace has been home to the British monarchy since 1837, when Queen Victoria took up residence there. A visit to Buckingham Palace allows tourists to experience the charm and grandeur of this historic landmark first hand.

For those who are lucky enough to visit during summer season, a tour of the State Rooms is highly recommended as this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Visitors can observe stunning works from the Royal Collection which includes masterpieces by Rembrandt, Rubens and Canaletto amongst others. The Changing of Guard ceremony at 11:00am every day is also an event not to be missed! Tourists can watch as the guards march from St James’s Palace and make their way down The Mall towards Buckingham Palace.

Westminster Abbey

One of London’s most iconic tourist attractions is Westminster Abbey. This historic landmark has been the site of royal weddings, coronations, and funerals for centuries. It was founded in 960AD as a Benedictine monastery, and is located near the Houses of Parliament in Westminster.

Visitors to Westminster Abbey can explore its many historical features, from its magnificent fan vaulted ceilings to its grand Nave. The Abbey also houses numerous memorials to famous figures throughout history, including Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and Geoffrey Chaucer. Additionally, visitors can marvel at several spectacular works of art by some of Britain’s greatest artists including Henry Moore and John Constable. With so much to take in it’s easy to see why Westminster Abbey has become one of London’s top tourist attractions.

Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is one of the most iconic symbols of London and a must-see for anyone visiting the city. Located on the River Thames, this Victorian suspension bridge has been around since 1894, but is still as awe-inspiring today as it was then. Tower Bridge is truly a sight to behold – with its two towers standing proudly over the river and connected by two walkways, it’s an engineering feat that demands admiration. Not only can you witness its beauty from below, but there are also several platforms where you can look out over London and take in breathtaking views of the city skyline.

Piccadilly Circus

Piccadilly Circus is one of London’s most iconic tourist attractions. Located in the heart of London, this renowned public square and road junction has been a major transport hub since the 19th century. It is also famous for its neon signs and billboards which have become synonymous with London’s culture and heritage. Piccadilly Circus acts as a gateway to many of the city’s other iconic landmarks including Leicester Square, Regent Street, Trafalgar Square and Soho. Visitors can explore the area on foot or take a ride on one of the traditional red buses that stop at this famous site. Many visitors are drawn to Piccadilly Circus due to its electric atmosphere; street performers often draw crowds near Piccadilly Circus’ statue of Eros – an attraction in itself!
