Spectacular Landscapes

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Gorges du Verdon in France offers some of the most spectacular landscapes in Europe. Located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southeastern France, it is a popular destination for hikers and those looking to soak in breathtaking views. The area boasts turquoise waters and picturesque limestone cliffs that rise dramatically from banks of lush vegetation along a 25km stretch of river.

The winding canyon features a number of impressive natural wonders including its highest point, Point Sublime. This lookout provides breathtaking views over both sides of the gorge and into the deep blue valley below. Other highlights include Gorge de la Mescla at Moustiers-Ste-Marie which has a series of underwater caves perfect for adventurous explorers as well as crystal clear water ideal for swimming on hot summer days. The best way to see this spectacular region in France is by car. Beware, however, that gas stations are few and far between. Fill up well before approaching the gorge as the towns close to it do not have supplies.

For those looking to explore at their own pace, canyoning and kayaking offer a unique opportunity to explore this majestic landscape while getting some serious adrenaline rushes along the way. Picturesque Villages

The Gorges du Verdon in France is home to some of the most picturesque villages in Europe. Many of these beautiful villages are perched on hillsides and steep cliffs, with winding streets that lead down to crystal blue lakes. Tourists flock there each year to take in the stunning views from every angle and explore an area deeply rooted in history and culture.

Among these dreamy villages are Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Castellane, Aiguines, Quinson and Artignosc-sur-Verdon. Each village has its own unique charm, a rich heritage, friendly locals and plenty of local eateries for tourists to enjoy. From rustic churches built into the rock face to terraces that overlook the lake – it’s no wonder why these places have been called some of France’s most picturesque villages!

From castles ruins to ancient churches, travelers can find plenty of places to explore in the Gorges du Verdon region. La Maline Castle is one example; this structure dates back to the 12th century and offers visitors a glimpse into medieval life. Another noteworthy site is La Verna Chapel, built between 1091 and 1100 on an isolated rock outcrop overlooking Lake Sainte-Croix – visitors can enjoy sweeping views while taking in this historic building.

Birdwatching along nature trails

Wildlife Viewing at the Gorges du Verdon France is an incredible experience. Situated in the south of France, it is home to a wide range of stunning animals and birds. The area offers visitors a chance to observe some of nature’s most beautiful creatures in their natural habitats.

The Gorges du Verdon has been declared a protected area by UNESCO, allowing visitors the opportunity to view species such as the Black Kite and Griffon Vulture soaring over the cliffs and gorges. With numerous hiking trails, bird watching platforms and observation points along the shores of Lake Sainte-Croix, it provides travelers with breathtaking views of wildlife that are simply not found anywhere else. From river otters to heron colonies, there is no shortage of exciting wildlife sightings waiting for you here!

Museum of Prehistory of the Gorges du Verdon

The Gorges du Verdon is an area of stunning natural beauty located in the South of France. Home to a variety of wildlife, its dramatic gorges and tranquil lakes have long been a draw for tourists and explorers alike. For those looking to learn about the prehistory of the area, the Museum of Prehistory of the Gorges du Verdon is an essential destination. This museum is located in Virieu-le-Grand, a small village situated on the banks of Lake de Verdon. Inside, visitors can learn about the area’s history from the Stone Age to Roman times and beyond.

The Museum of Prehistory of the Gorges du Verdon is a fascinating venue for history and archaeology lovers. Located near Montmirail, France, it is home to a collection of artefacts from the region dating back to the Paleolithic period. Visitors can explore over 6,000 years of prehistory through the museum’s various exhibits and areas. This museum is well worth a visit isf you are already in the area and we highly recommend it!

The main gallery contains displays showcasing objects such as tools, weapons, pottery and jewellery from different ages in prehistory. There are also interactive displays featuring workshops and activities that allow visitors to experience ancient techniques first hand. In addition, there are several educational videos which provide deeper information about each exhibit or age period.

Location & Accessibility: Getting There

Archeological artifacts & prehistoric exhibits in a striking Norman Foster-designed museum. The Museum of Prehistory of the Gorges du Verdon is located in the southeast of France, and is renowned for its incredible archaeological finds. With easy access by bus, car or train, visitors can enjoy a unique insight into the geological history of this particular region.

Located at Rte de Montmeyan, 04500 Quinson, France, it’s easy to get to this museum from many regional destinations. Whether you’re travelling from Marseille or Nice, simply take one of several daily trains that run directly there. Alternatively if you’d prefer to drive yourself then Castellane is easily accessible by car via A51 highway from Grenoble or Avignon. There are also regular bus services running from most towns and cities nearby too; ideal for those who don’t want to worry about parking.
